Well yes, we obviously designed our own website! If you like the font we’ve used, guess what, it’s called ‘Hind’.
What we wanted to achieve was to look a little different, while employing some contemporary features such as the background video. Hopefully Gwyneth the goshawk grabs you’re attention and helps to explain our ethos of paying hawk-eyed attention to detail to all aspects of YOUR website.
When designing for other people we usually suggest keeping their site fairly simple and clutter-free. This helps keep the website speedy and maximises user impact. We went against this somewhat to try and showcase some animations and hover effects. The video and the use of large background images all impact on the page loading speed, creating some challenges to optimization. As usual we will monitor how the site performs for the user over time. With the flexibilty of the Content Management System, changes can be made at any time and elements altered to keep things fresh.
Although we’d love to get 100% on test results and high speeds for our own website, our heavily laden site obviously brings the scores down a bit. Using Google Fonts, having Facebook and Twitter feeds and playing videos all come from external resources and are outside of our control. However, we’re pretty happy with an impressive 83% for desktop speed & 71% for mobile speed on Google PageSpeed Insights and good grades all round on the test results. We’re perfectionists so will continue to strive for perfect scores!
In fact we test sites using various online tools and feel a whole lot better about our results from GTmetrix!
If you require a lot of extras on your website, they will affect its performance, but to have an impact and for user experience they may be worth the slight loss of performance. We can weigh up the options with you and still optimise it as much as is possible.
